Okay, no big deal, I'll just reboot the phone into download mode and re-flash with the LG Flash tool to Stock and start over. I could Sideload another ROM, but I didn't think of that at the time.

So now the phone has no OS, but recovery is working. In doing so, I accidentally wiped the the tmp cache that contained the ROM and radio kernel. In my frustration, I defaulted to my natural reaction when trying to flash a custom ROM that fails - Factory Reset. Now, I'm not sure if the ROM really was incompatible or something else happened, but the ROM installation failed to complete - Several times.

This is where Mistake #2 happened: I mistakenly pushed both the ROM and kernel to the tmp partition on the phone. I pushed the new ROM and radio kernel to the device and started with the flash. Once the phone was rooted I installed TWRP for the custom boot loader and got to work. I then obtained the LG Flash Tool and downgraded her OS to Jelly Bean to allow rooting and rooted the phone. Once this was done, I felt no need to any further backup of the device (mistake #1). I backed up what I could to her Google account and did a factory reset on the phone. Since she had only had the phone for a few days she hadn't really installed many apps or done much customization.

After some deliberation, this sounded like the best option for her as it would bring a level of familiarity while still allowing for full customization. I ended up searching around and found a couple of options on XDA, one of which was supposedly a customization on the T-Mobile firmware/ROM that allowed it to be used on the D800 (AT&T model).

Now, this wasn't my first rodeo with Android customization I have done a few custom installs on my previous phone and converted my old Nook Color into a real tablet before they released the new tablet that actually runs Android.

Naturally, I went searching for some options to flash a new ROM or firmware to the phone to allay some of the frustration she was having with the phone. We got it set up with no issues, but after a few days she mentioned a few quirks with the AT&T firmware that she wasn't happy with and asked if anything could be done. I recently picked up an AT&T unlocked LG G2 intending for my fiance to use it on the T-Mobile Network. If you really need a step in the right direction beyond what I've written, I recommend heading over to the XDA LG G2 forum, most of the material you will need is right on the front page of that forum.

Lastly, I left out a lot of the technical details and sources for how to obtain the ROMS/TOT files/Flash Tool as well as some of the guides I used to get into this simply because if you're already in this predicament you probably already have the guides and files that got you there in the first place. I don't have any experience with the KDZ files and can't speak to the efficacy of these steps with those files.

TOT files and may or may not work for the other models that don't. Also, this was done on an LG G2 D800 which use. Though, if you are reading this for the same reasons I was there isn't too much more you can really do. Standard disclaimer, this worked for me but may not for you and I am in no way responsible for any damage incurred to your device. Hopefully someone who finds themselves in my shoes will see this and shorten the pain of thinking you've completely ruined your shiny LG G2. I decided to post this write up (rambling though it may be) because of how long and hard I had to search to come across the resolution and the amount of posts from people with the same or similar issues with no listed resolution. For me it only worked in Linux, two different windows boxes failed.įirst off I want to send out a big thanks to this thread as well as XDA for getting me pointed in the right direction for a fix to this issue. Edit: tl Dr: Use a hex editor in a Linux distro to modify the tot file to allow you to flash the correct stock firmware on your phone.
